Silent Speech

When visiting the food markets in Seoul, I started a silent conversation in my mind, trying to guess what people around me were saying. Some things are easy to guess, such as whether the food is fresh, where it comes from, how one can get the best price. But a market is also a place where you are tempted, and where you meet your neighbours and acquaintances.
In order to share my made-up conversations with others, I hung speech balloons down from the ceiling at the market, to make all visitors part of a story – a living comic book – a small poem in the bustling market. Silent Speech was part of an art event called Enjoy Changdonb.
