Room of Angels

Room of Angels -installaatiossa tuhannet erimuotoiset Muranon lasitehtaalta kierrätetyt käsintehdyt peililasien fragmentit mukailevat Palazzo Loredanin mosaiikkilattian kuvioita. Peilit moninkertaistavat valon ja arkkitehtuurin yksityiskohtineen kunnianosoituksena Antonio Scarpagninon renessanssiajan seinä- ja kattokoristelulle. Teos tuo esille luonnollisen sekä materiaalisen että henkisen kauneuden vaalimisen tarpeemme. Barokin aikakaudella boudoir-huone oli ainoastaan naisille sallittu peseytymis- ja kaunistautumisalue. Oviaukosta katsoja näkee tilan enkeleineen. Hän kurkistaa samalla aistien ulkopuolella olevaan todellisuuteen, jossa havaitsee itsensä heijastuvan peililaseista enkelien kanssa. Tiede voi tutkia enkelien olemassaoloa. Peilit paljastavat osan näkyvästä todellisuudesta. Samalla tavalla taiteilijan ja tutkijan tehtävä on tutkia ja paljastaa todellisuuksia, joita ei vielä tunneta.
The thousands of recycled mirror fragments collected from Murano glass factories in different forms are placed carefully on the colourful patterns of the mosaic floor. They multiply the daylight and the architecture of the intimate pink coloured boudoir room in the Palazzo Loredan. The boudoir rooms were used as saloons for washing and beautifying – restricted only for women in the baroque period of time. The installation pays homage to the architecture highlighting our natural desire to glorify the beauty in material and spiritual spheres. The visitors experience the Room of Angels from the door opening without entering inside. They can take a glimpse to the reality beyond their senses, where they do see themselves reflected on the mirrors and meeting with the angels. The existence of angels can be investigated by scientists. Light and angels are part of the good creation. The mirrors reveal one part of the invisible reality. Similarly, the task of an artist and a scientist is to investigate and reveal realities, which are not discovered yet.
